History

In the month of August 2016, John T. Ocansey, who is a Central Sterile Processing Consultant, Founder and CEO of Allied Institute of Professional Studies (alliedips) now Sterile Processing Institute, SPD Staffing, and SPD Hired, and his CFO Juliana Ocansey traveled to Ghana for the principal purpose to introduce Central Sterile Processing in Ghana. The broader motive is to introduce and advance the improvement of central service through the development and education of specific process and guideline to ensure that all surgical instrument is sterile and free of infection when they enroot into the operating room. Mr. John Ocansey has been in healthcare sterile processing and materials management since 2002. He is also a Subject Matter Expert.

In 2017, John and Juliana traveled back to Ghana to establish Central Sterile Processing Association of Ghana (GHASPA) and to meeting with central service techs working at the Korle Bu hospital and potential members. The first GHASPA meeting was held on March 24th, 2018 and five members were

GHASPA was officially adopted as an affiliate of IAHCSMM at the May 2018 annual conference held at Arizona, the first in Ghana and Africa as a whole. During the same conference, three Ghanaian sterile processing professionals from New York approached John Ocansey to express their intentions to join the Ghana chapter. Two separate meeting were held during the conference with Mr. Alpha Omega Owusu-Addo, Isaac Otoo-Mensah, and John Atta Aglah, all sterile processing managers. It quickly became apparent and was agreed at the meeting to bring all Ghanaians in the sterile processing professionals in the United States on-board to join this noble course.

On Saturday May 5,2018 at 4 pm, the first meeting of a team of seven was held and the Ghana Association of sterile processing professionals (GASPPRO) was formed. The seven foundation members of GASPPRO is the Seven Visionary Team leaders in the sterile processing industry based in the United States. The VT-7 met to shared ideas aimed at advocating for high standards in sterile processing in Ghana, West Africa and a gateway to Africa as a whole.
